Of all the trim, that is. What am I looking at, cedar? Poplar?
Jacobia?
Ebony?
Mahogany?
Maple?
Ash?
(I’m done)
I want to do my window casings, baseboards, and maaaaaaaybe even ceilings like that if I’m feeling particularly ambitious.
Anyways, first day as an apprentice tile guy was great. Way more physical than I expected but hey, at least now I know firsthand how godawful mixing up concrete bags is. The guys before us didn’t cover up the radiant floor with a layer of quickrete or whatever, which I guess is a thing that is supposed to happen, so we had an unexpected extra step. Wooooo, learning!
40 minute commute to Arlington kinda blows, but traffic was zero in both directions so it wasn’t sooooo bad. Did I mention how a bangin’ sound system was the best mod I’ve done? Especially when turned up super loud and paired with noise-canceling earbuds?

Cedar ceiling. Maple doors and trim. Welcome to the under paid over worked world I have always been in. Do you mix with a low speed high torque drill with a concrete whip attached? Makes it super easy.

Thanks! All of the cabinetry looked like some kind of spalted maple, I can’t get enough of that clean wood look.
Shovel only 7 bags of that quickrete sand topping stuff, so I can’t complain. Too much.
Pay doesn’t seem too bad around here for people who are at least a step up from laborers, but yeah I’m a bit curious to see what hours are going to be like. I asked if we worked 5 days or 7 days a week, and it sounded like 7. It’s been a while since I’ve done 60+ hour weeks

I love wood ceilings. It’s my favorite part of the (
few) remaining
craftsman
style homes around here. I like the raw wood, but even painted white is good too.

While that wood is pretty, it also reminds me of the 1970s mobile home that I grew up in (in the 90/00s), so it’s a dated look even tho it’s “modern”.
Is that a shower you’re tiling in? Is concrete backer board not standard in wet spaces?

Yep, shower. And n o clue on the concrete backer board , but I know that we’ll be waterproofing the walls about 10 feet up. As to what that entails... I couldn’t tell you

A good tile guy is worth his weight in quick set. Or something.

I'll probably stay long enough to be an okay-ish tile guy. What's that worth?

Your weight in expired thin set. Oh yeah never ever use an old bag of thin set, I did and had to redo a floor.
